Study Links Accutane® Use to Inflammatory Bowel Disease
A study came out, "Isotretinoin Use and the Risk of Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Case - Control Study" published in The American Journal of Gastroenterology confirming a strong link between Isotretinoin and inflammatory bowel disease and ulcerative colitis. About 8,000 patients with inflammatory bowel disease were included in the study. The findings confirmed that people who use Isotretinoin in higher doses for long periods of time are at an increased risk of developing the disease.
Inflammatory Bowel disease, What is it?
The term is used to describe a group of disorders that involve inflammation of the intestines. Ulcerative colitis and Crohn's Disease are both considered forms of inflammatory bowel disease. Ulcerative colitis describes inflammation of the colon, alone, while Crohn's Disease can be used to describe inflammation of any part of the intestine.
